So read and enjoy.  ☆Definition of Metaphysical Poetry Highly intellectualized poetry marked by bold and ingenious conceits, incongruous imagery, complexity and subtlety of thought, frequent use of paradox, and often by deliberate harshness or rigidity of expression. Metaphysical poetry is extremely intelligent & witty. It is deeply religious but is also ironical. It is a little bit different from other types of poetry. Poems  classified in this category do share the same characteristics. They are all of highly intellectualised, use strange imagery & contain complicated thoughts. What is ‘metaphysical poetry’, and who were the metaphysical poets? The term, which was popularised by Samuel Johnson in the eighteenth century, is often used to describe the work ...

Poem Love in a Life by Robert Browning

Hello Friends,                This blog is my response to a task assigned to us by our Prof.Dr.DilipSir on Victorian Poet Robert Browning and here let's have a look at the poem "Love in a Life" by Robert Browning.  Love in a Life Poem by Robert Browning  ' Love in a Life’ by Robert Browning is a short two stanza poem that is separated into two sets of eight lines, or octaves. The lines are structured with a consistent rhyme scheme that follows the pattern of ABCDDABC, alternating end sounds in the second stanza. The repetition used in the arrangement of the lines mimics the circular actions of the speaker himself. As he searches he goes in one door and out the other, always close behind, but not quite catching, his lover. By the end of the poem he still hasn’t found her, this alludes to the possibility that his “quest” will go on for some time to come.  The most important theme of the piece is separation. Browning’s speaker, ...

Hardtimes

Hello Friends,               This blog is my response to a task assigned to us by our Prof.Dr.DilipSir in the thinking activity of the Hardtimes by Charles Dickens. So read and enjoy.                 In today's time, the most of the students face the hardtimes is that of exam time, that also every year, the time that is full of stress, panic, and even inspite of all the precautions, somtimes the exam time is really a challenging one. What if there were no exams? Infact, life itself is an exam, but that is not so much hard as the academic exams. Actually, it's the test of our will to study, to pursue our dreams, if it's that very easy anyone could have achieved it and there lies our true test, it's not easy, so that the one who is able to face the pains can only come out with true success. Just as the pressure creates a diamond, so in the same way, the pressures on us will bring out the diamond in...

Jude the Obscure

Hello Friends,  This blog is my response to a task assigned to us by our Prof.Dr.DilipSir on Jude the Obscure, a novel by Thomas Hardy. So let's have a look on the study of characters Jude and Sue Bridehead and the other aspects of the novel.      Hardy exposed his deepest feelings in this bleak, angry novel and, stung by the hostile response, he never wrote another.               The publication of Jude the Obscure is both an end and a beginning. In hindsight, it signals the transition to a modern literary sensibility while also painting a picture of a profoundly Victorian rural society. It was another kind of turning-point, too, because Thomas Hardy, shaken by the hostility aroused by the novel dubbed "Jude the Obscene", would never write fiction again. And it was a new beginning because henceforth he would become one of the greatest English poets of the 20th century.                 When th...

Importance of being earnest by Oscar Wilde

Hello Friends,  This blog is my response to the task assigned to us by our Prof.Dr.DilipSir on the play Importance of being Earnest by Oscar Wilde. So read and enjoy.   The Importance of Being Earnest, A Trivial Comedy for Serious People is a play by Oscar Wilde. First performed on 14 February 1895 at the St James's Theatre in London, it is a farcical comedy in which the protagonists maintain fictitious personae to escape burdensome social obligations. Working within the social conventions of late Victorian London, the play's major themes are the triviality with which it treats institutions as serious as marriage, and the resulting satire of Victorian ways. Some contemporary reviews praised the play's humour and the culmination of Wilde's artistic career, while others were cautious about its lack of social messages. Its high farce and witty dialogue have helped make The Importance of Being Earnest Wilde's most enduringly popular play. The successful opening night ...
