My Experience on Lecture by Prof. Noam Chomsky

Hello Friends,

Here I'm sharing my experience on the 34th Memorial Lecture by Prof. Noam Chomsky.

Prof. Noam Chomsky

A Brief Introduction

Avram Noam Chomsky (born December 7, 1928) is an American linguist, philosopher, cognitive scientist, historian, social critic, and political activist. Sometimes called "the father of modern linguistics",  Chomsky is also a major figure in analytic philosophy and one of the founders of the field of cognitive science. He is Laureate Professor of Linguistics at the University of Arizona and Institute Professor Emeritus at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and is the author of more than 150 books on topics such as linguistics, war, politics, and mass media. Ideologically, he aligns with anarcho-syndicalism and libertarian socialism.

My Experience

It was a very wonderful experience and a great opportunity for us. The lecture was just the previous day of Prof. Noam Chomsky birthday. We were blessed enough to give him the best wishes. Online meetings have allowed us to connect with the world in no seconds. Although there were some technical issues in first 20 minutes so we were connected through YouTube link but after few minutes me and other more than 900 participants were connected through zoom meet. Zoom allows 1000 participants. It was said that more than 5000 participants registered for this session. It was a joyous occasion for all of us. Prof. is a public intellectual, like a rocky mountain, and he is the most Cited scholar in the world. He knows many languages including malayalam.

Although I found it a bit difficult to catch his lines but I tried to catch the words may be because of foreign tone so difficult to grasp everything but slowly I was able to catch many of his words and tried to pay more and more attention. But definitely we can watch the video or read the transcript to get to know all that we couldn’t get at the first time. But one thing is notable that he is so very energetic and enthusiastic inspite of 90+ age. He talked flourishly on his subject, we must salute to his powerful mind and memory. A lesson we should learn from such a great personality to take care of our health and to gain expertise in our profession.

It's said that to become a good speaker we need to become a good listener and good reader. The lecture lasted for almost 1 hour and 30 minutes but still Prof. said that he had another lecture within few minutes, such is his dedication and very high spirits even at nineties. Truly we can see this from Prof. that
"Age is just a number."

His strong will and determination is truly appreciable. It's all in mind if one wishes then he is young even at 80 and 90 but a weak person is old at twenty. The choice is ours. For much subject details please watch the video or read the transcript. Here I am sharing video and few screenshot of the lecture.

Thank you

Marxist Criticism & Feminist Criticism

Hello Friends,  This blog is my response to the task assigned to us by our Prof. Dr.DilipSir on Marxist and Feminist Criticism. So, read, understand and enjoy. Happy Learning! MARXIST CRITICISM What Marxist critics do 1. They make a division between the 'overt' (manifest or surface) and 'covert' (latent or hidden) content of a literary work (much as psychoanalytic critics do) and then relate the covert subject matter of the literary work to basic Marxist themes, such as class struggle, or the progression of society through various historical stages, such as, the transition from feudalism to industrial capitalism. Thus, the conflicts in King Lear might be read as being 'really' about the conflict of class interest between the rising class (the bourgeoisie) and the falling class (the feudal overlords).  2. Another method used by Marxist critics is to relate the context of a work to the social-class status of the author. In such cases an assumption is made (which a...

A Brief Note on Translation

Khushbu Lakhupota  MA Semester 4 Paper 208 Comparative Literature & Translation Studies   Written Assignment  A Brief Note on Translation  Batch 2020-2022 Submitted to: Department of English, MKBU. khushbu22jan93@gmail.com  18 March 2022, Friday  Translation is the bridge and the road that connects to the world of knowledge. Translation study makes the writers work known beyond their own linguistic boundaries. To achieve a high standard in Translation and faithful to the original text one has to take note of the linguistic problems and refer to the theoretical components. Many writers have formulated theories of Translation and established the principles for the Translators. Problem of Equivalence is a major concern in any theory of translation. Translation equivalence is a semiotic category comprising syntactic, and semantic components. Translators must study the translation theories that can be used as a guideline for the production of translation. Se...

Wide Sargasso Sea Novel by Jean Rhys

Hello Friends,  This blog is my response to the task assigned to us by our teacher YeshaMa'am on the novel Wide Sargasso Sea by Jean Rhys. So, read, understand and enjoy. Happy Learning! "Our parrot was called Coco, a green parrot. He didn't talk very well, he could say Qui est la? Qui est la? And answer himself Che Coco, Che Coco. After Mr. Mason clipped his wings he grew very bad tempered. . . .    I opened my eyes, everybody was looking up and pointing at Coco on the glacis railings with his feathers alight. He made an effort to fly down but his clipped wings failed him and he fell screeching. He was all on fire." Antoinette's story begins when she is a young girl in early nineteenth- century Jamaica. The white daughter of ex-slave owners, she lives on a run-down plantation called Coulibri Estate. Five years have passed since her father, Mr. Cosway, reportedly drunk himself to death, his finances in ruins after the passage of the Emancipation Act of  1833 , whi...
